He currently manages Santos Laguna, where he is responsible for tactical decisions, match preparation and dressing-room management. Earlier in his career he also managed Rayo Vallecano y Elche, gaining experience across different competitive contexts. He is regarded as one of the most influential modern coaches to have come from Spain.
